Community Gardens
Our organization diligently continues to foster awareness pertaining to ecological issues. One of the ways we aspire to achieve this aim is through our exciting and innovative Eco-Community Garden Program. The program’s mission involves the revitalization of vacant and neglected land parcels into green space. More specifically, the program involves establishing vibrant community gardens along with model gardens that promote sustainable and ecologically-friendly practices. In addition, the program integrates an educational facet, including interactive workshops on gardening, cooking, and composting.
What is a community garden? In a community garden, patrons are granted an area of land upon which they may grow organic vegetables and flowers. Patrons share in both the maintenance and rewards of the garden.
Benefits:
A stronger community is what lies at the core of the program’s philosophy. Further, community gardens:
- Promote a healthy lifestyle by engaging hobbyists in outdoor physical activity.
- Allow opportunities for positive social interactions, including intergenerational and cross-cultural connections.
- Provide the opportunity to grow fresh, nutritious, organic produce.
- Reduce crime and vandalism by providing a comfortable and secure haven where neighbors may gather.
- Enrich patrons with interactive learning opportunities (e.g. gardening/cooking workshops).
- Enhance property values by creating more attractive neighborhoods for people to walk and enjoy life outdoors.
